With a love for the Greek/ Cypriot culture, Skye, 30-year old  personal assistant, and Karl, 32- year old Senior Business Intelligence Analyst from Leeds, had their rustic and chilled wedding on the 19th September 2021.

Real Wedding Cyprus Liopetro

Karl and Skye met in January of 2011, they dated for around 9 months before breaking up. “We were both very young and had a lot of growing up to do. We found our way back to each other in February 2014”. After getting to know each other again, they made it official in February 2015. Within 6 months they had moved in together and “there was no going back”.

For Karl’s 30th birthday, Skye bought them a trip to Karl’s favourite place on earth, Las Vegas!

“We went out on our first evening and Karl took me to watch the Bellagio fountains. He was very specific about what time we had to get there and where we had to stand. I thought this was just to make sure we had a good view. We arrived and the music started playing. Karl had made sure we got there so I could see the fountains for the first time and to one of my absolute favourite artists… Cher! As the Music ended and the crowds disappeared, we ended up taking some pictures of the Vegas strip and that’s when I turned around and Karl was on one knee! I eventually said yes after a lot of happy tears and we went off to celebrate at the Chandelier bar inside the Cosmopolitan hotel. The proposal was a complete shock and it was definitely one of the best days of my life. Karl is a very thoughtful and surprisingly romantic person.”

Skye’s engagement ring was an 18 carat white gold band with a single solitaire diamond in the middle and diamonds on each side of the band.  “I pointed out a ring very similar about 2 years previous, so I think I was most shocked that he remembered the style! I wanted something unique to all the rings I had seen before and still, I don’t see many brides with this style.“

“My dress was Katerina by Enzoani Blue. It’s a tight fitted, strapless mermaid style gown in blush with plenty of lace and a tulle train. When I went dress shopping, I knew I wanted lace and tulle but they were my only requests. I never thought I would wear something strapless, but I knew this dress was the one.

Over 2020, during the lockdown, I gained a lot of weight through stress and the dress no longer fit me by August that year. In January 2021, I started to lose weight,, determined that our wedding would be going ahead. I managed to lose 3.5 stone for the wedding, and I felt amazing for it! There was no better feeling than being able to show off my curves on the big day. I’ve never felt so proud of myself.”

Wedding Shoes Bride

“Karl bought me my necklace and earrings as a wedding present. There were white gold huggies with a single pearl, along with a single pearl necklace.

My shoes were Miss KG by Kurt Geiger. A blush pink block heel with a glitter band on the toes.”

My something old was my first piece of jewelry that Karl ever bought me – an eternity style ring. My new was my dress, my borrowed was a hair piece that my Maid of Honour wore for her wedding. I felt so special that I got to wear it on my big day too. My something blue was a blue garter that my mum bought me.

Karl wore a Moss Bros blue checkered 2 piece suit. Trousers and waistcoat with no jacket ;it was far too hot for that! He wore it with a blush-colored tie and a brown belt and shoes which were from Ted Baker. He also wore a pocket watch that I had bought him as a wedding present. I also had it engraved for sentimental value.

How and why did you choose Liopetro?

“I always knew I wanted to get married abroad and luckily, Karl agreed! I had been looking at venues all over Europe and eventually I got in touch with an independent wedding planner. I told them what I was looking for and asked them to send me over some options but I didn’t want to know where they were located. When I started looking through them, Liopetro immediately stood out and nothing would ever compare. It was pretty much my exact vision. Being a PA, I didn’t want a wedding planner. I ‘organise’ for a living and absolutely loved planning it all.”

“Liopetro is stunning and too much decoration can take away from its natural beauty. I wanted to keep it quite minimal. We had a beautiful wooden arch at the top of our aisle, with flowers and foliage attached. We had white chair covers draped over the backs of the wooden Chiavari chairs, with a wooden fan placed on each chair to help cool down our guests.”

Lace runners adorned each table with eucalyptus and ivory candles dotted in between. “When the sun had gone down and the candles were lit, this made it feel completely romantic and intimate. It was everything I had ever dreamed of”

“Along with the fans on each chair during the ceremony, we also gave each guest a small gift of wildflower seeds. Most people will say that favours are completely pointless, but our guests loved this idea! A lot of our friends and family are keen gardeners and I think it’s a nice keepsake for them to look out into their gardens and be reminded of our big day!“

For their wedding dinner, Skye & Karl had a traditional Cypriot BBQ “It was incredible! This is probably the main thing our guests rave about. There was absolutely loads of food and the choice was amazing! We loved how authentic it was and the fact it was being cooked live by one of the chefs just added so much to the experience” .

“I was born in America and I’m still very obsessed with certain American snacks. Anyone who knows me well enough will tell you that my favourite treat is a doughnut. So I couldn’t have my big day without a doughnut tower! This was a huge success and a big hit with our guests. We ordered from Love Island Cakes and what an amazing job they did. They made all my doughnut dreams come true!”

Liopetro Wedding Music

“Music is really important to us and our taste varies quite a bit. We had Gavin from Definitive Disco playing for us and I could go on and on about how amazing he was! We were sent a questionnaire a few months before the big day and I really wanted to make sure I put in as much information as possible. During the meal, we had Ibiza style chill out music. This was the perfect background for our guests to relax to. After we had finished eating, Gavin had organised Cypriot dancers (Myrtia group) for us to entertain our guests with. This was so much better than I expected. It gave everyone a laugh, kept people interested and got us all joining in at the end. It was fantastic. What a great group!

Gavin really got the party started after this! We started out with some classic 80’s and 90’s tunes, swiftly moving into noughties R&B. This really got our guests moving, I don’t think I left the dance floor all night. We had some special requests at the end of the night. These were some of our favourite songs and being able to dance with our closest family and friends whilst these were playing was truly unforgettable.”

Liopetro Wedding Couple Dance Floor

“Karl was dreading the first dance! We’re not slow dance kinda people so this was a good alternative. We danced to The Wannadies – You & Me Song. Gavin had organised for some floor fireworks to go off right when the chorus kicked in and it was perfect timing. The photos and video of this moment are absolutely everything!”

Bride Liopetro

“Our wedding did have to be postponed. I live by the saying ‘everything happens for a reason’ and as much as it broke my heart when we had to postpone to 2021, it really was a blessing in disguise.

The Liopetro team made everything so easy and they were so supportive, amazing service. We weren’t precise about which date we had as long as our Photographers were free that day! Everything else was able to be moved to the following year and all our suppliers were very understanding and sympathetic.“

What was the best part of the day and why?

“For me, the best part of the day was finally getting to walk down the aisle. I had so many dreams and visions of how I would feel and it was honestly the most incredible moment of my life. Close second would be our final few songs, dancing with our guests, we just had so much fun!

For Karl, his favourite moment was our cocktail reception. We had Zack Evangelou playing on the saxophone and he was brilliant! One minute we were having photos taken and the next, we were dancing with all our guests in the Cypriot sun! We couldn’t resist a quick dance before cooling off with a Sangria. Great music, great atmosphere, perfect!”

Liopetro Sunset

“The only issue we had was Covid-19. Other than that, I really enjoyed planning everything. I would do it again in a heartbeat!

The Liopetro team really know what they are doing and made it completely stress free. They answered all my emails in really good time and when we finally got to Liopetro a few days before the wedding, meeting with Makis, Ifi and Mike helped everything fall into place. They are absolute pros and there is literally nothing to worry about. They made sure the day went perfectly.”

Is there anything you learned that you think is an important tip for future wedding couples?

“Don’t skimp on your Photographer and Videographer. I’m so glad we did our research on this and now we have the most important memories that will last a lifetime.

The day goes super quick so just let your hair down and have fun! Let the venue take control and go be with your guests. Everything will fall into place.”
