Originally from Hamburg, the newly married Mr & Mrs Tank now live in Cyprus and married on the 10th October 2022 at Liopetro.
Marieke, 34 & Jonas, 35, an Executive Director and Human Resources Manager, met through a dating app back in 2017. Discovering that they both shared a passion for travel and other cultures, the couple began their love story and have since travelled the world together before moving to the island of Cyprus.
“We are always looking for new ideas and projects and love the sea and the blue sky.”
Marieke was already a little impatient about the proposal whilst Jonas was quite relaxed… When Marieke became pregnant, Jonas had planned to surprise her. At that point, Marieke had been waiting for so long that she didn’t expect Jonas to propose!
Jonas took Marieke to a stunning vantage point where there was a bench and a beautiful view of the Mediterranean sea at Aphrodite Hills, Paphos. Jonas wasn’t worried if Marieke would say yes or not, he was more worried as to whether she’d like the ring or not.
Although we don’t think that would have stopped her, and even better, Marieke loves the ring! “The ring is beautiful with a larger diamond in the middle of smaller diamonds.”
Marieke wore a gorgeous cream coloured tulle wedding dress featuring a plunging neckline, ¾ length sleeves and adorned with lots of glitter and embellishments. Marieke kept her accessories simple with just earrings and a hair clip. To complement, Jonas also wore a cream coloured linen suit. For her bouquet, Marieke chose peonies as they’re her favourite flower and decorated the venue with veilweed, as they love the natural boho look of them, along with candles and fairy lights. For their ceremony they had a gorgeous arch decorated with flowers to match.
During their first visit to Cyprus during a drive through Kouklia village the couple came across Liopetro, completely by chance. Definitely a moment of fate and meant to be, they stopped, parking their car in front of the venue to find out more. “We parked in front of the location. I saw the beautiful flowers in front of the entrance and looked to see what this place was”. After googling the venue, they discovered we were a wedding venue and immediately knew that they would one day marry at this very place. “I knew if we got married one day it would be here.”
For their wedding day the couple decided to “calculate what the guests would drink and left money at the bar.” Choosing a buffet for their evening meal, they had a live cooking station, salads, meat and vegetarian dishes on offer for their guests. “It was absolutely amazing. Our guests are still talking about it.”. With their wedding cake which was a three tiered carrot cake decorated with peonies and other small cakes for dessert options too.
When asked what was the best part of their wedding day, the couple said “the party at the end!” With Dj Pizel to entertain the guests all night long, playing a mix of everything from good party music to greek music. The couples’ first dance was to Zorbas, the traditional greek folkdance, said to express the beauty and agony of living.
An important tip from Marieke for any future Liopetro couples, would be to “enjoy the day it goes by so fast! And dear bride, try to eat from the great buffet!”
