There can seem like a lot of wedding-related decisions that need to be made in the crafting of your big day, and there are some that are even more important with a much bigger impact on your day than others. One of the biggest decisions you’ll make is choosing your wedding venue. Not only does your venue set the tone for your wedding but it can also impact your vendor choices and of course, your budget too.

It’s best to start looking as early as possible – at least a year in advance – to find a venue that suits your style whether it be rustic, boho, minimal, classic or beachside, your budget and somewhere that you love also.

#1 Booking in advance

Great venues get booked up! Start looking at wedding venues as soon as you can as most popular venues get booked up years in advance! Whilst it doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to book a venue within a smaller time frame, you’ll most likely be restricted on potential dates however. At Liopetro, we suggest booking at least 2-3 years in advance as our dates book up fast (at the time of writing this next year (2024) is almost fully booked).

#2 Be flexible with your wedding date

That being said, being flexible with the month that you wish to marry is something to consider. If you’re restricted to school holidays or such you may need to be open to a different school break within the year to find a date suitable for you. Particularly for us, the last two weeks of May followed by July & October are our most requested months due to the UK school holidays. Due to the increase in costs for weekend weddings, weekdays are increasingly popular for couples to marry – especially Fridays and therefore are typically booked up first throughout the year.

#3 Location

You’ve chosen Cyprus so no doubt you’ll want a backdrop of the mediterranean sea – however that doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to be on the beach for that. Just 5 minutes away from the coast, (and 15 minutes outside of Paphos) at Liopetro you can have the panoramic backdrop of the stunning azure that is the Mediterranean Sea within the rustic village setting of Kouklia.

#4 Style

Choosing a venue that pairs perfectly with your vision is a number one priority. The right venue will be suitable to tie in with your wedding theme,  whether it be rustic, boho or chic you’ll want a venue that can accommodate just that with a few simple touches or all our elaborate on depending on your budget. We’ve covered a lot of interesting styles and themes over the years at Liopetro, including lots of floral and vibrant themes, across all varieties of cultures from Indian to Chinese to Arabic, Cypriot and English, and not forgetting Boho, Rustic and Chic themed weddings too.

#5 Capacity

Playing a large role in the decision of your wedding venue is to cater to your number of guests. Whether it be 20-500 (or for a traditional Cypriot wedding that could even be 2000 guests), you’ll want a venue that will not cram guests in or have too much space. The right event space will offer various options to suit a range of number of guests that will be in attendance – however, it’s best to check what that is and also the best way to host your party size. Liopetro can accommodate up to 350 guests for a Wedding Reception and up to 200 guests for both ceremony and reception. Whilst we have no minimum number of guests that we can cater we do have a minimum charge in place (ask us for more information).

#6 Budget & Packages

Budgeting can be a large deciding factor when it comes to selecting the right wedding venue for you. Depending on what type of ceremony (Civil or Anglican service), there are applicable fees plus municipality fees to consider also – all of which are listed accordingly in our Wedding Brochure (here) so there are no hidden costs or charges. All of our packages include a sum allocated towards decoration packages and the use of our exclusive Bridal Suite too!

#7 Transportation

Does your venue require transportation for you and your guest to go from the ceremony to the reception? This can be an additional cost that you’ll need to consider as well as how your guests will get to the venue. At Liopetro all of our ceremony and reception venues are located within the venue and only a few steps from each other for ease of transportation.

#8 Curfew

Depending on location, wedding venues will have different ‘cut off’ times for which the party (noise) will have to end. Therefore it’s imperative to know these restrictions beforehand so that you can plan accordingly. Our curfew at Liopetro is midnight, allowing you plenty of time to dance the night away!
